116 Senior’s Independent Living Homes in the Beautiful City of Fort St. John, BC
Coming Winter 2023
Harlequin City Centre is an innovative Senior’s Independent Living Community that includes a collection of fully-appointed 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and studio Homes, universally designed for accessibility in the heart of Fort St. John. These units also work extremely well for persons with disabilities.
Harlequin City Centre is proudly owned and operated by VRS Communities Society – a non-profit housing provider committed to housing affordability and seniors living services. At Harlequin, combined rents and full seniors services, including meals, programs, and housekeeping, start from only $2500 per month. The Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program also helps make rents affordable for BC seniors with low to moderate incomes. SAFER provides monthly cash payments to subsidize rents for eligible BC residents who are age 60 or over.

Your donations will help build this community
VRS continues to work with BC Housing in support of all available housing grant subsidies benefiting our senior’s population. As grants and special subsidies become available from BC Housing, VRS directs those funds to delivering additional levels of affordability to those most in need. However, we are competing with a vast need throughout our Province.
You can help our local seniors by making a donation to one of our 3 tiers of funding. Donations to a specified ‘Capital Costs Fund’ help to reduce project costs allowing our non-profit organization to lower rental rates; donations to our ‘FF&E Fund’ (furniture, fixtures and equipment) also help to reduce the mortgage to achieve lower rents and help to enhance the quality of life of our residents; or you can donate directly to a ‘Core Housing Subsidy Fund’ dedicated to the provision of core housing for those most in need (your donations go directly to reducing rental rates for seniors and persons with disabilities).
How to donate
3 tiers available
VRS Communities is a not-for-profit and a registered charitable organization and all donations will be issued an official tax receipt. We are asking for donations for the following:
TIER ONE: FF & E (furniture, fixtures and equipment)
This funding tier will reduce the cost of purchasing furniture, fixtures and equipment for the stand-alone Clubhouse including tables, chairs, full commercial kitchen equipment, craft room décor and equipment; computers, hardwires and work stations for the computer room and e-learning centre, fitness equipment, furniture and equipment for the games rooms, shelving and books for the library, and furniture for the staff room.
Donate NowTIER TWO: CAPITAL COST REDUCTION IN COMPONENTS
Donations made to this tier will reduce our capital cost outlay (mortgage costs) for providing electric charging stations; landscaping items such as trees and garden beds for the residents; walking pathway to join City trail system; artwork (individual pieces may be sponsored with a preference toward local Native artwork).
Donate NowTIER THREE: CORE HOUSING SUBSIDY FUND
Our goal is to provide at least 8 suites with a core housing subsidy for the life of the project, to house those in financial need of assistance (core housing needs occur when over 30% of before tax income is required to pay for shelter). By raising $ 1.8 million, VRS intends to provide a direct financial subsidy to these units.
